Small Things
I personally am I big proponent of doing small things to help reduce your carbon footprint and help our environment. I know this won’t solve everything, but in our environment’s current state, every little bit helps. I also know that trying to figure out things to do can be daunting for some people, which is why I wanted to compile this list of some of the small things that someone (even a teenager) could do to help the environment.
- Recycle (duh!)
- Compost (anything that you can keep out of landfills helps)
- Use reusable lunch containers (once again, anything to keep things out of landfills)
- Use reusable bags (instead of plastic, paper or ziplock bags)
- Buy a reusable straw (paper ones may break down better, but you are cutting down trees for them)
- Take the bus/public transportation (driving your own car isn’t that great for the environment, so taking the bus whenever you can help, such as taking the school bus to school instead of driving)
- Don’t litter (I repeat, duh!)
- Buy products in bulk (less waste from packaging over time)
- Plant a tree (or literally any other plant, planting things is never bad)
- Start a garden (pretty much the same as above, but no matter how big or small, it is a start)
Now, these may only be a few small ideas of things that you can do, but each of them can help to reduce your waste little-by-little. I hope that one of the ten ideas from above can help you to help our environment, or maybe it sparked an idea of your own.
